Marriage books (indexed), 1795-1987 [microform].

The marriage book documents the legal union of man and woman as husband and wife. Before August, 1984, marriage books varied in content and format from county to county and over periods of time. Marriage books created prior to August, 1984 may contain one or more of the following: marriage license, bond, register or return, certificate, and parental permission slip. Many of these records were also maintained as separate series in various counties. Marriage books for 1878-1915 also include marriage records for blacks that were maintained separately.
